Batik has been both an art and a craft for centuries.   It is known to
be more than a millennium old.  The word "Batik" is an Indonesian
word which means "wax writing". It is the method of decorating
cloth with the use of melted wax. It is on the island of Java in
Indonesia that the Art reached it's peak of development.

The hand-dyed scarves using the technique of batik in this section
are original contemporary designs on China Silk Habotai fabric.
